Ido Shemi's works create a colorful, amusing world full of wild humor, whimsy and irony. He combines biographical references with images taken from the media world, comic strips, and alternative pop culture. The project "Demographic Delusions" was created as a nostalgic homage to the three-dimensional landscape postcards popular in the 1960s and 1970s. In this series, made using a hologram printing technique, Shemi conflates a 3D surrealist representation of megalopolises (London and New York) with the Israeli street scene. In this project, as in the light boxes presented in the exhibition, Shemi engages in an endless investigation of a way of life, a culture, and a period in time. Using a radical comic-strip language and 3D technology he constructs a colorful, dense, and multi-layered world.
