Jenifer Bar Lev was raised in the United States during the years of the feminist struggle, internalizing this position in her work. In the series "Empathy with Artists," included in this exhibition, she traces a cultural and personal world populated with key figures from different periods – from Piero Della Francesca, through Duchamp, Johns, and Rauschenberg, and up to Jonathan Borofsky and Jenny Holzer. She refers to artistic actions typical of these artists, turning them into everyday actions that she "does with them." Bar Lev's paintings discard the painterly gesture that describes the world through an image, instead reducing the visual to geometric units. The English texts describe small, everyday stories, reminiscent of a diary. These texts, mostly inscribed within geometrical shapes, fall apart, and their physical, spatial, and optical aspects come to the fore.
