This exhibition presents works that capture intimate, personal moments, when the masks and defenses that people wear in front of the camera are removed. They explore the charged relationship between the camera and its subject – the places where the unwritten contract between the photographer and photographed is breached. The exhibition provides a contemporary perspective on unheroic moments and encounters with random, anonymous people, exposed in their private moments. Furthermore, it engages with issues of observation, distance, sharing, and the boundaries between the private and public spheres. In the past, documenting incidents in the public realm was considered a provocative, intrusive observation motivated by a voyeuristic impulse, whereas today photographing in public occurs within a culture that consecrates the invasion of privacy and overexposure. The show's images record momentary, incidental activities, alongside staged works that appear to document real situations; also displayed are paintings influenced by photographs, depicting ordinary, everyday moments. The subjects in these photographs expose a moment in reality, sounding the depths of existence in a way that reveals the secret emotions of the human soul.
